What is a cookie?
A cookie is a small text file that a website's server places in your computer's browser or on your mobile device when you visit the site. Thanks to this cookie, information about your visit is recorded.
A site's server can only read the cookies it has itself placed. It has no access to any other information on your computer or mobile device.
Why, and which cookies, on lagoffinerie.be?
Most sites use cookies for two reasons: to let you browse comfortably, and to measure their audience. This site does both without any tracking cookie: it keeps a few preferences in your browser's own storage (never sent anywhere), and it measures its audience with anonymous events that carry no cookie, no IP address and no fingerprint. Accepting cookies is therefore not required to access the site or any of its features, and no cookie banner is needed.
The site sets no cookie of its own. It keeps six small values in your browser's storage, none of which identifies you or leaves your device:

The site is hosted on GitHub Pages, which sets no cookie. Should a CDN such as Cloudflare ever be placed in front of it, it may set a short-lived security cookie (__cf_bm, about 30 minutes) to tell browsers from bots — strictly necessary to serve the page, and free of personal data.
Audience measurement — first party, no third party
To know whether the site works, it sends a handful of anonymous events to my own server, in the European Union — not to Google Analytics, not to any advertising network:
- the page was loaded; which sections scrolled into view; how far down you scrolled;
- which buttons were clicked; whether the contact pop-up was opened, and by what;
- how many seconds the tab stayed visible, so I can tell a glance from a read;
- the language, and whether you are on a phone, a tablet or a desktop;
- the domain of the site that sent you here (never the full address), reduced to a category such as “LinkedIn” or “Google” before it is stored.
These events share a random session number that lives in the tab's memory and dies with it: a reload is a new session, and nothing links two visits together. No IP address, no browser fingerprint, no user agent and no cookie are stored. Visit lines are deleted after 30 days; daily totals are kept for 12 months.
On the first load of a tab, the home page also asks the same server whether the logo animation is switched on, and how fast it should play. That request carries nothing about you, and nothing is recorded from it.
If your browser sends the Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal, the site sends a single anonymous page count and nothing else — no session, no timing, no referrer.
When you write to me
The contact form sends your name, e-mail, subject, phone number (optional), availability and message to FormSubmit (formsubmit.co), a form-to-e-mail service that delivers it to my inbox, and a copy to my own server so I can follow up. Both are used for one thing only: calling you back about your request.
I never share these details, never add them to a mailing list, and delete them on request.
Third parties the page talks to
- Google Fonts — the three typefaces are loaded from Google's servers, which therefore see your IP address when the page loads. No cookie is set.
- GitHub Pages — the hosting keeps standard server logs for security.
- FormSubmit — only when you send the contact form (see above).
Your choices regarding cookies
There is no tracking cookie to refuse here. If you want to keep even the local preferences off your device, your browser can block site data for lagoffinerie.be or clear it at any time (Settings → Privacy → Site data): the site keeps working, it simply forgets your language between two visits. If your browser sends the Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal, the audience measurement is reduced to a single anonymous page count.
